The Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center (Tsinghua SEA) hosted a mini online workshop titled “Smart Tech, Big Impact: AI for a Sustainable Future” as a preview to the upcoming Happy Digital X 3.0 (HDX 3.0) program. Designed as an interactive learning session, the event introduced participants to the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addressing global sustainability challenges. The workshop also offered a glimpse into the experiential format of the full HDX program.
Featuring expert insights from UNESCO’s International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) and TSEA leadership, the session spotlighted real-world applications of AI across various sectors. Speakers emphasized AI’s potential to support sustainable development through innovation in areas such as energy, agriculture, education, and urban systems—while also promoting UNESCO’s global leadership in ethical and inclusive AI deployment.
Participants took part in breakout room discussions, simulating the hands-on and community-driven approach of the HDX 3.0 program. These small group sessions enabled participants to dive deeper into practical use cases, brainstorm solutions, and reflect on the ethical implications of emerging AI technologies. The interactive format helped transform passive learning into an engaging and meaningful experience.
Feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive, with participants reporting increased awareness of AI’s role in sustainability and a strong interest in joining the upcoming HDX 3.0 cohort. The event successfully served as both a learning opportunity and a platform for early community building, attracting future changemakers eager to harness smart technologies for a greener, more inclusive world.
